Unimore is a top-tier university (Class A – 'Fully Satisfactory') according to ANVUR. This is the evaluation the University received during the periodic accreditation process
The National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) carries out periodic assessments—typically every five years—of the quality of teaching, research, and third mission activities, as well as of the quality of university management processes, in order to grant institutional accreditation. The final accreditation judgment is based both on the analysis of documentation and on the on-site visit conducted at the University.
Between October 8 and 11, 2024, our University received a visit from the Evaluation Expert Committee—composed of 13 external faculty members, 3 external students, and one ANVUR official—as part of the periodic accreditation process for the institution and its academic programmes.
ANVUR informed the university in recent weeks of the outcome of the visit and the result was extraordinary: The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) received the highest possible evaluation, with an accreditation rating of 'Fully Satisfactory’.
Only a very limited number of universities have obtained such a result so far. The accreditation process engaged the entire Unimore community, including faculty, students, and administrative and technical staff. The thorough document review conducted by the experts, followed by the on-site visit, allowed the Committee to verify how the University meets the AVA3 Model (Self-Assessment, Evaluation, Accreditation) requirements at the highest quality standards. The ANVUR Periodic Accreditation Report essentially affirmed that Unimore meets the established requirements for teaching quality, research, and third mission/social impact at a high level. In addition, the university also achieved a fully satisfactory rating in relation to the quality requirements of resource management.
The key is found in the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia's Quality Assurance System, where coherent university strategies and policies steer the development and implementation of educational, research, and third mission activities across Departments, Degree Programmes, and PhD Programmes. As part of the accreditation visit, a sample of ten Degree Programmes, three Departments, and three PhD Programmes was also evaluated. The evaluation was generally very positive in this instance as well, which undoubtedly played a key role in the successful outcome of the institution’s accreditation.
According to the experts' assessment, another key strength of our University is its ability to involve students in decision-making processes and its strong focus on the quality of services provided to students.
In the coming years, Unimore will maintain its commitment to developing a high-quality educational and research environment, making it an appealing institution for students, faculty, and researchers. This will also involve improvement efforts in areas that the Expert Committee appointed by ANVUR has highlighted as still needing further development.
In conclusion, based on the excellence evaluation awarded by ANVUR, our University has been certified as a high-quality institution. Thus, it is not only able to maintain and build on the positive results achieved so far, but also to pursue the continuous improvement of its core missions and institutional activities.
