The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

Contenuto

The European Credit Transfer System - ECTS guarantees the academic recognition of study periods abroad by means of a system that makes it possible to measure and compare a student's academic achievements and transfer them from one institution to another. ECTS makes study programmes easy to read and compare for all students, national and international. It facilitates student mobility and academic recognition. It is based on the principle that 60 credits measure the workload of a full-time student over the course of an academic year. The workload of a full-time study programme in Europe is in most cases equivalent to 1500-1800 hours per year and in such cases one credit represents a workload of 25 to 30 hours per week.
The Italian university system provides for an exact correspondence between university credits (CFU) and ECTS credits, i.e. 1 ECTS credit = 1 CFU credit.
