Educational goals

The ICT PhD program aims to contribute to sustainable scientific and technological development that enhances quality of life, safety, and environmental impact, while fostering young researchers with high capabilities in research and innovation within Information Engineering in all its aspects. Graduates are prepared to effectively take on significant technical roles and organizational responsibilities within the sector.

The program promotes both basic and applied research and technology transfer in collaboration with industrial partners and service companies. Doctoral activities balance methodological and applied aspects, sector-specific focuses, acquisition of cross-functional soft skills, individual deep dives, and collaboration within the doctoral community and with tutors. Engagement with industrial partners facilitates high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) projections and technology transfer of research outcomes, while the university ensures the innovation and scientific rigor of the activities. The relevance of the industrial collaboration network is underscored by research contracts with various companies supporting doctoral activities.

The program offers three curricula:
1. **Computer Engineering and Science**: Covers various research areas in Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
2. **Electronics and Telecommunications**: Focuses on foundational and advanced applications in electronics, electronic measurements, and telecommunications.
3. **Industrial Applications of ICT**: Addresses the aforementioned disciplines with a specific emphasis on developing new knowledge to meet industrial innovation needs and labor market demands, including developments up to high TRL.

All curricula address topics relevant to Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data, aligning fully with research scenarios outlined by Horizon Europe and the National Research Plan.
