Educational goals

The training goals of the doctoral course are:
- Advanced training in the various fields of mechanical and vehicle engineering;
- Education in scientific and technological research on particularly advanced and innovative technical problems in mechanical and vehicle engineering;
- Development of a high aptitude to international and interdisciplinary research and scientific cooperation;
- Development of a strong ability to interact with the economic-industrial ecosystem;

This mission is implemented by defining a personalized study plan, whereby each doctoral student acquires the skills necessary for the in-depth study of the assigned research topic following a path ranging from literature analysis, attendance at specialized training courses, attendance at highly qualified research facilities and, possibly, access to research centers of leading industries. The training process is also supported by continuous interchange with high-level industrial realities in order to realize synergies between research topics and possible applications and industrialization of the solutions developed. The development of the aptitude for international scientific collaboration is pursued by encouraging participation in international conferences and events, the promotion of transnational research projects and collaboration with foreign facilities, including the execution of training and research periods at such facilities abroad.

This doctorate course aims at becoming a reference with regard to the research activities in Mechanical and Vehicle engineering in both an international level and within the Emilia Romagna region economic-industrial ecosystem.

Continuous monitoring of the progress and implementation of the PhD course activities is implemented. The quality manager of the PhD program is the course coordinator. Under his responsibility, the annual monitoring and review report is prepared. All the quality assurance activities are conducted by actively involving the members of the college faculty, the memebers of the Advisory Committee (link) and other stakeholders, particularly doctoral students, through their elected officers.
