The Department of Physical Sciences, Informatics and Mathematics (FIM) is the main seat of teaching and scientific research in the field of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The FIM brings together lecturers and researchers of recognised international standing in a single structure, fostering the fruitful intertwining of teaching and scientific dissemination activities with those of basic research and the development of new technological applications. The scientific activities of the various research groups and laboratories are financed by both national and international public agencies and industrial partners, and see numerous collaborations with other Italian and foreign universities and research bodies - in particular the CNR's Nanoscience Institute.
